Burdick Grand Slam Leads Jumbo Shrimp to Victory against Redbirds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A grand slam by Peyton Burdick propelled the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to victory against the Memphis Redbirds 5-1 on Tuesday at 121 Financial Ballpark.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (55-45) scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. Erik González singled then went to second on a wild pitch. Willians Astudillo was hit by a pitch and Jerar Encarnacion walked to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Burdick (14) blasted a grand slam, giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 4-1 advantage. The bases were once again loaded with three straight singles by Payton Henry, Víctor Víctor Mesa, and Ryan Lavarnway. A ground ball by Bryson Brigman plated Henry, adding one last run in the inning to make it 5-1.

The Memphis Redbirds (54-45) reduced their deficit in the top of the fourth inning. Alec Burleson (19) led off with a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

Strong pitching performances by Jeff Lindgren (W, 2-1), Anthony Maldonado, and Andrew Nardi (S, 6) helped keep the Redbirds at-bay. Lindgren tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with a season-high of five strikeouts in his first start with Jacksonville since April 27. Maldonado replaced Lindgren and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, and Nardi struck out five in the final two innings of the game.

Memphis drew first blood in the top of the second inning. Burleson walked to first then advanced to second on a fielder's choice. A single by Luken Baker plated Burleson to put Memphis ahead 1-0.

Jacksonville hosts Memphis at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday. RHP Bryan Hoeing (6-5, 5.25 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Redbirds RHP Thomas Parsons(6-2, 4.91 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
