Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (49-50) dropped the series opener with the St. Paul Saints (48-50) 13-4. The Chasers now lead the season series 8-5.
The Saints started the game with a ground rule double-rule double before capitalizing on a Chaser fielding error. A double and a homer would put St. Paul ahead 4-0 after three outs.
Left fielder Brewer Hicklen came up in the bottom of the first and launched his 18th home run of the season to put Omaha on the board.
St. Paul capitalized on another Storm Chasers error to put the deficit back at four runs.
The Storm Chasers put a rally together in the bottom of the third to cut the Saints' lead to just one. Third baseman Angelo Castellano walked to start the inning before shortstop Iván Castillo hit a double to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Center fielder Drew Waters hit a triple to score the pair. A sacrifice fly from right fielder Nate Eaton plated Waters and made the score 5-4 after three innings.
The Saints responded right away in the top of the fourth with a two-spot and another run in the fifth to push their lead back to four.
Left-hander Austin Cox would go 4.0 innings and allow seven runs (five earned) with three strikeouts and no walks.
The runs kept coming for St. Paul, putting up one in the fifth and four in the sixth to put the score at 12-4.
St. Paul added another homer in the eighth to extend their lead to nine.
Pinch hitter William Hancock came in and drew a walk to start the bottom of the ninth before a double play ended the game wit the score at 13-4.
The Chasers and Saints will continue their series on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage starting at 6:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Omaha is scheduled to send right-hander Marcelo Martinez (3-5, 6.46) to the mound while St. Paul looks to start with Ronny Henriquez.
Thursday is Military Appreciation night presented by RTG Medical with special events scheduled to show our appreciation for the military.
