Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Indianapolis - The Toledo Mud Hens were defeated in game three of a four game road series with the Indianapolis Indians by a score of 5-4 Saturday evening at Victory Field.
Jacob Robson continued his hot start in Triple-A going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored and also made a great catch in center field. Christin Stewart also played well in the field making two over the shoulder catches in left field.
Robson led off for the Mud Hens with a stand up double to left field. Dixon Machado then laid down a sacrifice bunt to the first baseman which moved Robson to third. Stewart poked a ball into shallow left field that scored Robson and gave the Hens an early lead. Chad Huffman then roped a one out double to the left field wall scoring Stewart.
Edwin Espinal got the offense started in the second inning with a one out single passed the diving second baseman. Harold Castro then hit a single to right center field to give Toledo runners on first and second. Robson hit a soft line drive to center field which scored Espinal and gave the Hens a three-run advantage.
Hens starting pitcher Tyler Alexander faced the minimum through two innings retiring all six Indians batters he faced, two of which went down on strikes.
Indianapolis got its offense started in the third inning with a one out double by Wyatt Mathisen. Pablo Reyes then launched a home run over the left field wall to cut the Mud Hens advantage to one run. Kevin Newman then doubled to right field to give the Indians a runner in scoring position. Sean Rodriguez moved Newman over to third but was stranded there. After three innings, the division leading Mud Hens held a 3-2 lead over the second place Indians.
In the fourth inning, Castro roped a two out double down the right field line for his second hit of the evening. Robson then crushed a double down the left field line to score Castro and give Toledo a two-run lead.
Indianapolis answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Newman two-out double which scored Jason Martin. Alexander made his exit after the fifth allowing three earned runs on five hits while fanning five. Victor Alcantara came on to pitch the sixth for the Hens.
In the seventh inning, Robson recorded his fourth hit of the evening remaining perfect at the plate. Robson then advanced to second when a pick-off attempt got away from the Indians first baseman Mathisen but was caught trying to steal third. The Indians rallied back in the bottom half to take the lead on an infield single by Rodriguez which plated Martin and Newman and gave the tribe a 5-4 advantage.
Alcantara's night came to an end as Hunter Cervenka entered to pitch the eighth. Alcantara allowed two earned runs on three hits and recorded one strike out and one walk.
Grayson Greiner led off the ninth inning by drawing a walk and putting the tying run at first base for Toledo. Gerber then laid down a bunt and was called out on interference, so Greiner remained at first with one out. Espinal put a ball passed the second baseman to give the Hens two on with one out. Pete Kozma came in to pinch run for Espinal. Castro went down on strikes which brought up Robson with two outs and runners on first and second. Robson struck out and the Hens fell 5-4.
