From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Brandon Waddell twirled seven shutout frames and both Pablo Reyes and Sean Rodriguez homered as the Tribe dropped the Mud Hens, 8-0. Indy's first two runs came in the second off right-hander Artie Lewicki. Jason Martin doubled to left to drive in Kevin Kramer, and Eric Wood made it 2-0 with a RBI groundout to second. Two innings later, the Tribe piled on five runs against Warwick Saupold, using RBI singles by Jacob Stallings and Martin to tee up Reyes' three-run shot to left. Rodriguez's solo shot in the seventh sailed 423 feet to dead center, his second home run on his current rehab assignment.

TWO-HITTER: Brandon Waddell, Jesus Liranzo and Dovydas Neverauskas combined on last night's two-hit shutout, the fewest hits allowed by the Tribe pitching staff in a single game this season. The previous low was three, done twice (5/12 vs. COL, 2-1 win; 5/17 @ NOR, 6-0 win). Last year, Indy had six different games where they allowed just two hits; the Indians went 6-0 in those games.

NINE PUNCHOUTS: Waddell struck out a career-high nine batters last night. He threw seven shutout innings to carry the Tribe to victory, the second time in his career with seven innings pitched and no runs allowed (also: 6/24/16 with Altoona @ Bowie).

ROSTER MOVEMENT: Catcher Jacob Stallings and pitcher Clay Holmes were both recalled by the Pirates today. In a corresponding move, catcher Jackson Williams was reinstated from the 7-day disabled list. Stallings went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored last night. Holmes hasn't pitched for Indy since June 19, but he was on its active roster out of the All-Star break before being added as the 26th man for the Pirates' twinbill today against Milwaukee.

HE DID IT AGAIN: Pablo Reyes homered for a second consecutive game last night. He hit a solo homer for the Tribe on Thursday night before blasting a three-run homer to cap a five-run fourth on Friday night. Reyes has now homered in consecutive games three times in his career, the other two coming from July 15-17, 2017 with Altoona vs. Bowie and Harrisburg and also in 2016 from April 16-18 with Bradenton vs. Lakeland, another Tigers minor league affiliate.

NINE OR LESS, NO PROBLEM: The Indians have gone a season-high seven straight games by having nine hits or less offensively, but they've still managed to go 5-2 during that stretch. Despite the somewhat cold stretch offensively (.246, 55-for-224) over the last seven contests, the Indians are still averaging 4.9 runs per game (34 runs). When posting single-digit hit totals, the Tribe are 23-31 this season; they're 26-9 when recording 10 or more hits.

PROTECT THE VIC: The Indians are 28-18 at The Vic and have won 14 of their last 19 games in the Circle City. Seven of Indy's league-high 11 shutouts have come at Victory Field. Indy's 28 home wins are second most in the league behind Lehigh Valley (30). The Indians are 5-4 against the Hens at home this year and own a 121-79 (.605) record against them all-time at The Vic.

CLEANING UP: Jose Osuna is batting .343 (59-for-172) with four homers, 21 doubles, 34 RBI and a .934 OPS in 47 games for the Tribe. Since June 3 with Indy (20 games), Osuna has batted .372 (29-for-78) with eight doubles, 15 RBI and 10 runs scored. His 162 wRC+ is the second-best mark among International League batters with at least 190 plate appearances (SWB's Clint Frazier - 171 wRC+ in 215 PAs). Osuna has hit safely in 39 of his 46 starts for the Tribe this year.
