Pawtucket, RI - The Chiefs didn't allow a run after the first inning, but lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox, 4-0, on Saturday evening at McCoy Stadium. Irving Falu extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the game, and Andrew Stevenson has now collected a hit in 17 of his last 19 games with a single in Saturday's game.

Pawtucket (43-47) struck in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Tony Renda and Brandon Phillips both singled to put runners on first and second base. Adam Lind followed with a base hit to center field that scored Renda and moved Phillips to third as the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead. After Mike Olt struck out for the second out of the inning, Kyle Wren walked to load the bases. Oscar Hernandez then cleared the bases with a single, scoring Phillips, Lind, and Wren for a 4-0 Pawtucket advantage.

Syracuse (38-53) managed four total baserunners in the game: three hits and one walk. The best chance to score for the Chiefs came in the top of the third when Drew Ward had a one-out walk and Irving Falu followed with a single. The next two Syracuse batters were retired though, ending the frame.

Besides the four runs allowed in the first inning, Chiefs pitchers were strong. Starting pitcher Jerry Rodriguez allowed just one hit and two walks over his last four innings on the mound. Reliever David Goforth allowed only one baserunner in two scoreless innings on the mound, and Tim Collins pitched a one-two-three frame.

Syracuse and Pawtucket conclude their four-game series with a Sunday matinee. RHP Brady Dragmire will throw for the Chiefs while RHP Josh A. Smith will be on the mound for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
