
Road Warriors End Stingrays' Winning Streak

Greenville, SC -The Greenville Road Warriors (21-6-1-1) snapped the South Carolina Stingrays' (15-14-1-0) five-game winning streak with a 5-1 victory in front of 5,159 at the Bi-Lo Center Monday night.
After a scoreless first period, Road Warriors forward Brandon Wong found the twine at 2:40 of the second frame beating Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford with a wrist shot over the left shoulder. Forwards Connor Shields and Chris Chappell earned the assists.
Road Warriors forward Chris McKelvie made it 2-0 at 3:47 of the third period from forward Justin Bowers and defenseman Sam Klassen. Chappell gave the Road Warriors a three-goal lead with an unassisted marker at 8:46. Bowers scored his 10 of the season on the power play moments later at 11:44 from forward Mark Voakes and defenseman Wes Cunningham.
Stingrays forward Tommy Goebel ended the shutout at 14:17 burying a pass from Rob Ricci past Road Warriors netminder Dov Grumet-Morris. Forward Matt Scherer received the second assist. Chappell completed the game scoring at 14:29 from defenseman Blake Parlett and Shields.
Ford stopped 26 of 31 shots in the loss. Grumet-Morris earned his league-leading 13 win pushing away 28 of 29 Stingrays opportunites. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-2 on the power play while Greenville finished the night 1-for-4.
