Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors did a lot of things right Friday against the Calgary Hitmen, but unfortunately, their mistakes added up and ended up in the back of their net as they fell 7-3 to open their two-game Alberta road trip.

The Warriors came out strong as they took the fight to the Hitmen to open the game.

Seven minutes into the first period, Jadon Joseph jumped on a Calgary turnover inside their zone.  He took the puck to the high-slot between the circles and put a shot past Jack McNaughton to give Moose Jaw an early lead.

The Hitmen responded close to three minutes later when Orca Wiesblatt capitalized on a Warriors turnover inside their zone and scored the game-tying goal.

With under three minutes left in the period, the Warriors turned the puck over in the neutral zone which led to Calgary springing Jonas Peterek who scored on a breakaway to give the Hitmen the lead.

Inside the final minute of the first period, Calgary's Carson Focht drove across the Warriors line and skated to the left face-off dot where he put a shot past Bailey Brkin to extend their lead.

The Hitmen went up by three 87 seconds into the second period when Carson Focht scored his second of the game.

Moose Jaw was able to fight back three minutes later while working on the power-play.

Eric Alarie carried the puck down the right Calgary boards and stopped on the half-wall.  The 16-year-old then set up a trailing Ryder Korczak who took the pass and skated to the face-off dot where he ripped in his fourth goal of the season to pull the Warriors to within two.

The Warriors did a good job creating chances after their goal but they were not able to capitalize which turned out to be costly as the Hitmen went back up by three at 7:41 on Orca Wiesblatt's second goal of the game.

The older and more experienced Hitmen controlled the third period by outshooting the Warriors 14-2 in the frame.

Calgary got goals from Sean Tschigeral (5:37) and Mark Kastelic (16:06) to take a five-goal lead.  Moose Jaw get battling and got another goal from Ryder Korczak inside the final ninety seconds of regulation.

Korczak finished with two goals for the Warriors, Bryden Kiesman picked up an assist in the game which was his first WHL point, while on the other side, Orca Wiesblatt led Calgary with two goals and three points.

The Hitmen outshot the Warriors 46-16, Moose Jaw was 1-for-4 on the power-play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors Alberta weekend road trip continues Saturday in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes.  Catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the PreGame Show at 6:40pm.
