Swift Current Broncos News Release

VICTORIA, BC - The Swift Current Broncos (2-6-1-1) had a solid opening 20 minutes against the Victoria Royals (3-4-1-0) Friday night, but the second period cost them in a 4-0 loss.

The Broncos came out of the gate with some jump, outshooting the Royals 11-8 over the first 20 minutes, but it was the Royals who opened the scoring.

Shortly after killing off a power play, the Royals held the puck in the Broncos zone off a bad clearing attempt. Ty Yoder skated down the right wall before centring for Tarun Fizer who let a one timer go over Isaac Poulter's glove to open the scoring.

The score remained 1-0 through one period before things took a turn for the worst.

The Broncos had a tough second period, unable to create and sustained pressure in the Royals zone and being outshot 22-4.

Just 1:34 into the period Victoria doubled their lead when Philip Schultz deflected a shot through Poulter's legs.

Swift Current ran into some penalty trouble in the second, taking four minors. It was the third one that cost them.

With Brecon Wood in the box for interference, Sean Gulka parked himself in front of the net and redirected a one timer past Poulter to make it 3-0 Royals.

Three minutes later, Brandon Cutler put on a show for the fans at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre. After faking out Garrett Sambrook in the neutral zone, Cutler used a burst of speed to come in alone and beat Poulter with a backhand to make it 4-0.

After the second period came to an end, the Broncos had some chances in the third period to try and cut into the Royals lead, but Brock Gould was there at every turn making 23 saves for his first career WHL shutout.

The Broncos head into game four of their road trip against the Vancouver Giants (6-6-0-0) Friday night. The Giants are also coming off a big loss, 6-0 in Kamloops.
