November 9, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, IL (November 9, 2005) - St. Louis Blues Senior Vice-president and General Manager Larry Pleau today announced the club has recalled defenseman Dennis Wideman from the Blues' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen. In addition, the Blues have assigned forward Peter Sejna to Peoria.
Wideman, 22, has played in 12 games this season with the Rivermen, collecting six points (two goals, four assists) along with 31 penalty minutes. A 6-0, 200-pound blueliner, he also ranks second on the team with 41 shots on goal. The St. Louis Blues signed the native of Kitchener, Ontario, as a free agent on June 30, 2004, but he was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the 241st overall choice in the eighth round of the 2002 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. As he does with the Rivermen, Wideman will wear sweater number 25 as a Blue.
Sejna, 26, was recalled by St. Louis on October 31 and skated in two games for the Blues, registering two points (one goal, one assist) and two penalty minutes. The 5-9, 197-pound left winger currently stands as Peoria's leading scorer with 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in 10 games played. Born in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia, Sejna also leads the Rivermen in goals (nine), power-play goals (seven), and shots on goal (49). He earned the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week award for the period ending October 9, 2005, with four goals and three assists in Peoria's first three games this season. After winning the 2002-03 Hobey Baker award as the top player in NCAA Division-I men's ice hockey, Sejna signed with the Blues as an undrafted free agent on April 6, 2003.
The Rivermen are a proud new member of the AHL. Founded in 1936, the AHL now serves as the primary development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams and is celebrating its 70th anniversary season in 2005-06.
