Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis RiverKings won for the sixth consecutive time and, in the process, snapped Laredo's five game winning streak with a 6-2 win over the Bucks at the DeSoto Civic Center on Friday night. Travis Banga scored two goals to help the RiverKings improve their record to a CHL best 8-1-2. The RiverKings and Bucks play again Saturday night at 7:05 at the DCC. The first of 1,500 fans will receive DAC RiverKings duffle bags.

That 8-1-2 record is the best though the first 11 games in franchise history.

For the fourth straight game, the RiverKings opened the scoring in the first three minutes of the contest. Friday night, it was Darrell Stoddard who primed the RiverKings' offensive pump as he put home a rebound 2:44 into the game. Banga scored his first of the evening at 11:34 on a weak side power play rebound to make it 2-0 at the end of the first.

Memphis increased their lead in the second period with a combination of a suffocating fore check and advantageous offense. Jason Sessa and Louis Dumont executed a perfect power play two on one at 1:13 that resulted in Sessa potting his sixth of the season to make it 3-0.

Phil Aucoin scored his first of the season after he made an ankle breaking outside inside deke to free himself from a defending and go one on one with Bucks goalie Eric Marvin. Aucoin went across to his backhand and flipped it past Marvin to make it 4-0. After Ryan Held's shot from the high slot snuck through at 15:44 of the second, the RiverKings had built a 5-0 lead.

The Bucks got on the board and cut the lead to three with goals from Serge Dube and Bobby Chaumont at 17:20 and 17:58, respectively, of the second to give the Bucks some hope entering the third. The RiverKings and goalie Larry Sterling would withstand some early Laredo pressure in the third before Banga put the game away with his second of the night at 10:06. The tip in of Ryan Campbell's shot ties him with Campbell for the team lead in goals with seven.

The RiverKings limited Laredo to just 19 shots while taking 31 themselves. Larry Sterling picked up his seventh win of the season to go with zero regulation losses and one shootout loss after making 17 saves.

Laredo's Eric Marvin played the first two periods in goal and gave up five goals to take the loss and fall to 4-2-0.

Derek Landmesser made history by playing in his 318th career RiverKings game and passed Derek Grant for second on the team's all-time list.

After tomorrow night's game with Laredo, the RiverKings stay home for the Thanksgiving weekend with games against Wichita on Friday and Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.
