
Bucks Fall 6-2 To Memphis

SOUTHAVEN, Mississippi - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 6-2 to the Memphis RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center on Friday night. Forward Travis Banga scored a pair of goals as the RiverKings ended the Bucks five game winning streak. The Bucks fell to 7-4-0, but still lead the Southeast Division with 14 points. Laredo is in Memphis on Saturday night for a rematch. The Bucks return home to begin a three game home stand on Wednesday against Lubbock. The first 2,500 fans get a Coach âRosco' bobble head courtesy of AT&T and Cingular. The Bucks are extending an offer from their family to yours for the Thanksgiving holiday. The RiverKings took an early lead as forward Darrell Stoddard popped in a rebound just 2:44 into the game. Memphis added to their lead on a power play chance as forward Travis Banga chopped in a rebound at 11:34 to make it 2-0 after one period of play.
The RiverKings continued to add to their lead in the second period. Forward Jason Sessa converted a two-on-one rush for a power play goal 1:13 into the period. Then forward Phil Aucoin scored his first of the season on a nice backhander at 8:09 to make it 4-0. Later in the period a collision by two Bucks players put the puck into their own net and forward Tyler McGregor was credited with the goal at 15:46. Laredo finally got things cranked up as forward Serge Dube snapped in a wrist shot at 17:20. It was his fifth goal of the season. Just 33 seconds later forward Bobby Chaumont flipped in a centering pass from forward Igor Agarunov for his fifth goal of the season.
In the third period the RiverKings completed the scoring as Banga got his second of the night at 10:06. FINAL SCORE Memphis 6, Laredo 2.
Eric Marvin allowed five goals on 24 shots in 40 minutes and got the loss. Nathan Marsters stopped six of seven shots and did not factor in the decision. Larry Sterling stopped 17 of 19 shots and improved to 7-0- 2. The Bucks were 0-4 on the power play while Memphis was 2-4. The RiverKings out shot the Bucks 31-19.
