Newson leads the way as Bees win second in a row

Hidalgo, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees trounced the New Mexico Scorpions 5-1 on Friday night at the Dodge Arena. Bill Newson led the way with a pair of goals for Rio.

It was a slow start, but the Scorpions were first to sriket with a goal by Konrad Reeder with 8:34 left in the second period. With his first of two on the night, Bill Newson netted his fourth of the season tying things at 1-1 heading into the third.

It was all Rio after that with Dennis Maxwell, Rob Voltera, and Jason Cirone each adding a tally, and Newson collecting his second of the night. Newson (2-1-3) and Cirone (1-2-3) finished with three points each.

Jeff Van Nynatten came away with his third win on the season stopping 25 of 26 shots while Brad Smith suffered the loss with 22 saves on 27 shots.

The Bees, who have won two in a row, are back in action at the Dodge Arena Saturday night where they will battle the Arizona Sundogs. Game time set for 7:30 p.m.
