New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[HIDALGO, TX]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), fell to Rio Grande Valley Friday night 5-1. It was the fist time the Scorpions have lost to the Killer Bees in three meetings.

The Scorpions held Rio Grande Valley to only five shots in the final frame, unfortunately only one stayed out of the net. Less than a minute into the final frame Rob Voltera scored his first goal of the year, in what turned out to be the game winner.

Bill Newsom notched his second goal of the year when he took a rebound and put it past goalie Brad Smith. David Maxwell and Jeff Cirone would add more insurance giving the Killer Bees their second straight victory.

Things were a lot slower in the first two periods. In the second period, the Scorpions got on the board first when Konrad Reeder pounded the puck past the Killer Bees goalie for his third tally of the year. Chris Robertson worked hard in the corner moving the puck behind the net to Jake Brenk. Brenk used his vision and delivered a perfect pass to Reeder who was able to convert.

Just 62-seconds later Rio Grande Valley was able to tie it up on the power play. Scorps' goalie Brad Smith went to play the puck in front of him but it was kicked out of his reach. The puck went into the Scorpions crease where Bill Newson was able to put it to the back of the net.

The loss dropped the Scorpions to 0-5-0 on the road and gave them their fourth loss overall. Tomorrow night New Mexico will look to stop the skid in Corpus Christi . The game begins at 6:05 p.m. MST and can be heard of 610 The Sports Animal.
