Chris Richards and Jeff Christian Lead Offensive Charge Versus Oilers

The Youngstown SteelHounds got a six point night from Chris Richards and three points or more from four different players in an 8-5 victory over the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at the Chevrolet Centre. Richards, had two goals and four assists in the contest. The SteelHounds scored four goals in the second period for the second straight night to take the lead at 7-4. The Hounds would get one more from Stephen Margeson in the third to notch the victory.

Tulsa took the early lead just 39 seconds into the first period when Jaroslav Cesky took a centering pass from David Masse and beat Hounds goaltender Brad Roberts for the 1-0 lead. Youngstown would get one back at the 3:54 mark of the frame as Jeff Christian took the pass from Jeff Alcombrack on a delayed penalty call on Tulsa and beat Tulsa goalie Bill Ruggiero to tie the game at 1-1. Tulsa would re-take the lead when left winger Spencer Carbery shoved in a rebound through the five hole for the 2-1 lead. Less then two minutes later, the Hounds would tie the score again as defensemen Stephen Margeson chipped in a rebound for the 2-2 lead. The Hounds would take their first lead of the game at the 18:54 mark when center John Wheaton backhanded a shot that beat Ruggiero on the right top shelf for the shorthanded goal and the 3-2 lead. The Oilers would tie the score just before the end of the frame when Brian LaChapelle fired a shot from the slot that beat Roberts to even the contest.

Tulsa opened the scoring in the second period when LaChapelle netted his second goal of the night firing a shot from the slot to give Tulsa the 4-3 lead. Youngstown took advantage of seven powerplay opportunities in the frame converting on four of them, as Chris Richards recorded two of the markers from the left side of the goal crease. Jeff Christian and Paul Esdale scored the other two. Four of those seven powerplay chances came with Youngstown on the 2-man advantage.

The Oilers pulled to within two when forward Tyler Shantz took a lead pass from Spencer Carbery and chipped it over Roberts to make the score 7-5. The Hounds would score one more goal when Stephen Margeson deflected in a rebound from Josh Reed which made the score 8-5.

The Hounds outshot Tulsa 36-30 in the game, and Roberts saved 25 of 30 shots to earn his third victory of the season. Ruggiero turned away 28 of 36 shots, and was saddled with the loss.
