Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The scoreboard is not always telling of what happens in a hockey game. Tonight was no exception. The Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team came back from a 4-1 deficit going into the third just to come up short 4-3 against in-state rival the Colorado Eagles tonight at the Broomfield Event Center. Rage left winger Mark Wires led the team with one goal and one assist.

After the Rage won game one against the Eagles (Oct. 20), the second of 12 meetings this season went to the Eagles. The Rage and Eagles saw end-to-end action, plenty of scoring chances and an equal number of shots on goal (34 each). Tonight's loss moves Rocky Mountain to a 3-5-2 record, eight points and fourth place in the northwest division. The Eagles improve to 8-2-0, 16 points and remain in first place in the division.

Eagles center Chris Hartsberg drew the first goal of the game at 3:35 scoring off his own rebound. Rocky Mountain tied up the score six minutes later after back-to-back Eagles penalties. Vandermeer shot the puck from just inside the blue line. John DiPace got his stick on it tipping it in the net during the five on three. Greg Pankewicz, from passes by Riley Nelson, Chris Hartsburg gave the Eagles the lead again at 13:24 and Colorado's Seth Leonard closed out scoring in the period giving Colorado a 3-1 lead going into the second.

Rage goaltender David Guerrera made a kick save on a short-handed, breakaway opportunity by Eagle Ryan Tobler early in the period to keep Rocky Mountain within two goals. The Rage outplayed the Eagles in the middle of the period firing a series of shots on net around the 11 minute mark. Vandermeer earned the best scoring chance of the series but could not get the puck past Eagles goalie Marco Emond. Colorado's Pankewicz took back the momentum at 9:51 scoring the lone goal of the period and his second of the game.

Rocky Mountain quickly made it a one-goal game in the third period. Wires scored his fourth goal of the season from passes by Nick Warriner and Anders Strome, cutting the Eagles lead to 4-2. Two minutes later Kyle Kos fired a shot from just inside the blue line scoring on a power play and bringing the Rage within one goal. Despite scoring chances in the end for Rocky Mountain, the clock ran down securing the Eagles lead.

The Rage plays game two of their home-and-home series against the Eagles tomorrow night at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo. Fans can listen online at www.RockyMountainRage.com or over the radio live on AM 670 KLTT with the pre-game show starting at 6:50 p.m.
