RiverKings Beat Rayz 6-1

March 22, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

A wild night the Central Hockey League's Northern Conference has kept the Mississippi RiverKings home on Easter Sunday.

The RiverKings tonight defeated the Corpus Christi Rayz 6-1. However, they remained in fifth place in the Northern Conference thanks to the Youngstown SteelHounds' 3-2 shootout win over the Colorado Eagles. Also tonight, the Texas Brahmas lost to the Austin Ice Bats 4-1, allowing the SteelHounds to finish in third place.

The RiverKings will host the Brahmas on Monday at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of a best-of-three opening round series. The pre-game show will begin at 6:55 p.m. on Y96.1FM. The Brahmas will host the second game on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. with the broadcast starting at 6:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ. If necessary, then the third and final game would take place in Texas on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Coverage would begin at 6:55 p.m. on Y96.1FM.

The winner of the series between the RiverKings and the Brahmas will face the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in a best-of-seven conference semifinal series. Meanwhile, the Eagles and the SteelHounds will square off in the other best-of-seven semfinal series in the Northern Conference.

For the second straight night, the RiverKings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Rane Carengie scored his 18th goal of the season 3:39 into the contest and Ryan Campbell banged home his 30th of the year at 7:10.

The Rayz responded quickly, however. Nicklas Lindberg scored his 15th of the season at 8:59 to make it a 2-1 game. Like last night, the Rayz played the entire game with just 13 skaters.

The RiverKings broke the game open in the second period. On a power play, Chad Woollard slammed home his 37th goal of the year at 2:37. Then Sheldon Wenzel lit his third lamp of the season at 3:41 to give the RiverKings a 4-1 lead after 40.

Ryan Held scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season in the third period as the RiverKings ended the season on a four-game winning streak.

Ian Keserich made 32 saves for the RiverKings. Jason Tapp stopped 33 shots for the Rayz.
