
Hounds sweep Eagles thanks to dramatic comeback

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds came back from a 2-0 third period deficit to defeat the Colorado Eagles 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night. The Hounds finish the regular season 39-20-5 (83 points) for second place in the Northeast Division. Thanks to the Texas Brahmas losing to the Austin Ice Bats tonight the Hounds have clinched the third seed and will face the Eagles in a best-of-seven conference semifinal playoff series. The Eagles (37-20-7, 81 points) clinched their fifth consecutive Northwest Division title and the two seed by virtue of making it to overtime.
After a scoreless first period Scott Polaski scored a power play goal at 5:39 of the second period to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Ryan Tobler added a power play goal at 13:24 to put the Eagles up 2-0 after two periods. Colorado was 2-7 on the power play while Youngstown was 0-7.
In the third period Ryan Bennett and Chris Richards teamed up to beat Sebastien Laplante at 5:14 to make it a 2-1 game. With the Hounds net empty Ryan Bennett scored with 43 seconds left to tie the game at two and force overtime and the eventual shootout.
In the shootout Andy Franck stopped four of five Colorado shots while Jason Baird and Chris Richards scored to give the Hounds a 2-1 win in the shootout and a 3-2 victory. The Hounds complete the sweep of the Eagles and finish the regular season series 3-1-1 against Colorado.
The Hounds and Eagles continue their rivalry and will play a best-of-seven series with games one and two scheduled for Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado with face-off at 9:05pm EST for both games. Games three, four and five will be at the Chevrolet Centre on April 1st, 3rd and 4th. Hounds playoff tickets are available for $8.00 by calling (330) 747-PUCK.
