Rayz fall to Kings 6-1 in season finale

The Corpus Christi Rayz ended their tenth anniversary season with a 6-1 loss to the Mississippi RiverKings in the 2007-2008 regular season finale on Saturday Night at the Desoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS. The Rayz ended the season with points in six of their last ten games, and concluded the year with a 22-34-8 record. The Rayz finished the year in third place in the Southeast Division and seventh place in the Southern Conference. The RiverKings jumped on the board early when Rane Carnegie took a drop pass in the left circle and skated through the slot and beat Jason Tapp from the inside of the right circle at 3:39 for a 1-0 lead. The Kings made it 2-0 at 7:09 when Ryan Campbell tallied his 30th goal of the year. The Rayz cut the deficit to one goal, getting on the board when Nick Lindberg scored his fifth goal in the last four games with a wrist shot from the right circle at 8:59. The Rayz outshot the Kings 14-12 in the opening period.

The Kings broke the game open with two quick stirkes in the second period. Chad Wollard's one-timer on a power play gave the RiverKings a 3-1 lead at 2:37 and just 64 seconds later, Sheldon Wenzel beat Tapp glove side on a breakaway to give the Kings a 4-1 lead through two period. The Kings outshot the Rayz 12-7 in the period.

Ryan Held added a pair of goals in the third period at 13:53 and 18:31 to cap the scoring

The Rayz were outshot by the Kings 39-33. Corpus Christi went 0 for 4 on the power play and Mississippi went 1 for 6. Tapp took the loss for the Rayz and fell to 22-28-7, making 33 saves on 39 shots. Keserich made 32 saves on 33 shots, earning the win and upping his season record to 15-9-3.
