Washington Wild Things News Release

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped the second of a three game series against the Rockford Riverhawks Sunday.

Brandon Ketron knocked in each of the runs Washington scored for the evening, and he will go down in the history books as the batsman to hit the first home run in the brand new Riverhawks Stadium, which opened only five days ago.

The Riverhawks took an early lead, scoring in the first inning.

In the second inning, however, Pat Peavey singled and Brandon Ketron hit a two run homer over the left field wall, the first in the brand new Riverhawks Stadium.

The Riverhawks answered in the third, tying the score.

In the fourth inning, Andy Hudak had a lead off triple, and Ketron belted an RBI single over the right field fence, giving the Wild Things a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Riverhawks scored again, tying the game and eventually forcing extra innings.

Stephen Spragg (0-3) takes the loss for the Wild Things, working two thirds, allowing one run, one hit, walking one and hitting a batter. Starter Patrick Stanley worked six innings allowing four hits, two runs (one earned), walking four, and striking out three. Jon Grijalva , Corey Ohalek, and Jim Popp combined for three innings allowing one run.

The loss drops the Wild Things to 4-7 record. They will meet the Riverhawks again Monday when LHP Matt Squires will make his first start as a Wild Thing. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Eastern time.
