Rockford Riverhawks sweep Wild Things

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped the third of three games to the Rockford Riverhawks 6-5 Tuesday. Each Wild Things' loss to the Riverhawks was by one run.

The first batsman of the game, Chris Sidick, scored a solo homerun, blowing the ball over the right centerfield fence.

The Riverhawks came back in the next four innings to take a 5-1 lead, but in the sixth inning Brandon Ketron hit a solo homer, closing the gap to 5-2.

In the seventh inning Washington scored another three runs, tying the game at five. But the Rockford Riverhawks came back in the bottom of the eighth, recapturing the lead.

Stephen Spragg (0-4) takes the loss for the Wild Things, pitching two innings, allowing two hits, one run and walking one. Matt Squires, w ho started for the Wild Things for the first time, went 3.1 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs, walking one and striking out one. Chris Sadler worked 2.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

The Wild Things return to Falconi Field to host the Evansville Otters Wednesday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 adults will receive an umbrella, courtesy of Washington Federal Savings Bank. The game will be broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM and on www.msasportsnet; the game will be televised live on FSN Pittsburgh.
