Grizzlies rout Beach Bums for win

The Gateway Grizzlies (6-6) knocked off the Traverse City Beach Bums (6-6) 12-1 Monday eveining in Traverse City, MI. The Grizzlies banged out 17 hits in the rout of the Bums. The 17 hits is one less than the club's season best 18 they knocked out last Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.

Steve Soja (1-1) earned the win for the Grizzlies. In his best start of the season, Soja went seven shutout innings allowing just four hits. He walked two and struck out three.

Taylor Johnson capped the Grizzlies scoring in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded he crushed a pitch from Bums' reliever Kevin Joslyn over the right field wall for a grand slam. Johnson was 2-5 with the four RBIs. Bobby Gilliam continued to swing a hot bat. He was 4-5 with a pair of RBIs and a run. Gilliam is now hitting .429 for the club. Greg Isaacson was 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jason Arrowood was 1-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Rob Wirth was 2-6 with two RBIs and two runs. David Arnold was 2-3 with an RBI and a run.

The Grizzlies and the Frontier League take a day off Tuesday. Gateway returns to action Wednesday to begin a six game home stand. Game time Wednesday is 7:05 p.m. against the Rockford RiverHawks.
