River City Rascals News Release

O'FALLON, MO - It took a gutsy performance from a rookie right-hander and a controversial call on the final play of the game for the Rascals to win their second straight one run game against the Florence Freedom. Illinois native, Cameron Cheek, making his first professional appearance out of Randy Martz's bullpen, pitched 2.2 innings allowing one earned run while striking out two in picking up the first win of his career.

Five different Rascals drove in runs against the Florence pitching staff including Anthony Slagle who homered over the "Big Dog Wall" to right field with River City down 1-0 in the fourth. The Rascals would take a 3-1 lead that inning when Eric Chevalier and Eddie Guessford each connected with RBI singles giving River City their first lead of the game. Guessford went 1-for-4 in the game and now has five RBIs in his last four games in the starting lineup.

The Freedom would tie the game up at three in the sixth when Florence DH Greg Buscher slammed a leadoff home run against Rascals starter Chris Webb and added a second run on a ground out by CF Trevor Allen. Webb took the no-decision going five innings scattering nine hits and only allowing two earned runs.

River City would retake the lead in the bottom of the seventh when the Florence bullpen lost command of the strike zone. The Rascals were able to score twice on a bases loaded walk by Kim and then Geoff Desmond was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced to give River City a 5-3 lead. The Freedom would threaten in the ninth but on a ground ball play to second base that was slowed by the pitcher's mound; Buscher was called out at first base when it first appeared that Slagle's throw was not in time. Patrick Evers earned his fourth save in as many chances for the Rascals.

The Rascals conclude their weekend series with Florence with a McDonald's Monday tomorrow night at 7:05. Regardless of the outcome, all fans attending the game will receive a coupon for a free Big Mac courtesy of McDonald's. The Rascals will also pay tribute to the 1960's during Monday night's ballgame. Tickets start at just $5 and parking at T.R. Hughes Ballpark is always free. For tickets call 636-240-BATS or order online at www.rivercityrascals.com .
