Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

Steve Soja dazzled the Beach Bums and Gateway tallied 16 hits as the Grizzlies came away from Traverse City with a 12-1 getaway day win over the Beach Bums.

Gateway pushed the first runs of the game with four straight hits to lead off the third inning to go up 2-0. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies weren't done as they loaded the bases for Bobby Gilliam who singled into right field, scoring two more runs and putting Gateway up 4-0.

The Grizzlies tallied two more runs in the sixth on RBI base hits by Greg Issacson and Rob Wirth. Gateway put the game away in the eighth with six runs. The big shot in the inning was a grand slam off the bat of Taylor Johnson.

The Beach Bums were able to avoid the shutout when Mike Reese hit his first homerun of the season. Kevin Gergel notched two hits for TC.

Soja (1-0) was brilliant on the evening going seven innings allowing four hits and striking out three. E. J. Basta pitched the final two innings of the game. Shaun Parker (1-2) took the loss allowing four runs in three innings.

The Beach Bums now head out on the road for six games. The team will start with a three game set with Windy City Wednesday-Friday before heading to Rockford Saturday-Monday. Wednesday's game will start at 8:05 p.m. with Steve Shippey on the mound for Traverse City.
