
Brooks singles in winning run as \'Hawks sweep Wild Things

LOVES PARK, Ill. ¬- Set up the barber's chair - the Rockford RiverHawks are giving close shaves.
The RiverHawks completed a three-game sweep of Washington on Monday with a 6-5 victory. Rockford won four of six in the inaugural homestand at RiverHawks Stadium, and played five one-run games. They beat the Wild Things, 3-2, on Saturday and won, 4-3, in extra innings on Sunday.
Cody Brooks broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two-out single to center field off Stephen Spragg (0-4), who lost for the second night in a row.
The RiverHawks at one time led 5-1. Rico Santana hit the first home run by a RiverHawk at the brand-new ballpark, a two-run shot to left in the first inning. He added a RBI double in the third.
Adam Kroft gave up two solo home runs, but retired 12 in a row from the first through fifth innings. Chris Sidick led off the game with a home run and Brandon Ketron homered to left in the sixth inning. On Sunday, Ketron hit the first home run at RiverHawks Stadium.
Kroft left after six innings with a three-run lead but got a no-decision. Dave Dowling (1-0) lost the lead in the seventh, but won in relief. Mike Marksbury pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save.
The RiverHawks are off on Tuesday and head to Gateway for a three-game series that starts at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. They return home at 7:05 p.m. Saturday to play Traverse City on U.S. Cellular/WXRX RiverHawks Cap Night.
