HICKORY, NC- The Hickory Crawdads scored six runs in the 6th inning and held on for a 6-4 win in front of 2,143 fans on Monday afternoon at L.P. Frans Stadium. The loss was the fourth in five games for Charleston and they finished the South Atlantic League's first month of the season with a 16-7 record.

The Crawdads (16-8) were trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth and hadn't even gotten a hit against starter Bryan Mitchell (1-2), but all that changed in a hurry. After a leadoff walk, Chris Grayson singled for Hickory's first hit and was followed by another walk to load the bases. Hanser Alberto (1-4, 2 RBI, run) then doubled in two runs and an error on the play allowed a third run to score. Zachary Cone (1-4, RBI) singled in another run against new pitcher Ben Paullus to make the score 4-2. After a double put runners on second and third, the Crawdads added two more runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.

The RiverDogs cut the deficit to 6-4 in the 8th when Reymond Nunez (3-4, HR, 3 RBI, run) blasted a two-run home run, but they were unable to mount a threat in the ninth, as Phil Klein retired the side in order for his second save. Santo Perez (1-1) started for Hickory and picked up his first win of the year after allowing just two runs in six innings with four strikeouts.

The RiverDogs are off on Tuesday, then start a seven-game homestand on Wednesday, May 2 with a matchup against the Lakewood BlueClaws. RHP Scottie Allen (1-2 4.95 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the RiverDogs and LHP Ethan Stewart (0-1 1.33 ERA) will be on the mound for the BlueClaws. The scheduled first pitch time is 7:05 p.m.
