Asheville Tourists News Release

The rains came down hard at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Saturday night, and after just two innings of a scoreless game, the teams were forced to pack it in for the evening. On Sunday afternoon the game resumed and the Tourists immediately took control.

Trevor Story drove home two with a single to center in the top of the third but Delmarva answered with a run in the third and another in the fourth. With the score tied 2-2, Story delivered again for the T's in the fifth; this time driving a two-run triple to the gap in right center. Harold Riggins then drove in Asheville's short stop with a single; making it 5-2 Tourists.

The visitors added three more runs in the sixth to jump ahead 8-2. Delta Cleary Jr. drove in Brian Humphries with a single and Sam Mende also clubbed a two-run double in the frame. However, the Shorebirds made it interesting late.

Delmarva plated one in the seventh on Connor Narron's leadoff Home Run. They followed by loading the bases with no outs, but Taylor Reid worked out of the jam unscathed. In the eighth, the Shorebirds did capitalize. They scored five runs and tied up the score at 8-8.

With very little momentum, Asheville managed to put Tyler Massey on second base in the ninth. Humphries came to the plate with two outs and he answered the bell with a double to left-center; plating the go-ahead run. Nelson Gonzalez worked a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

Game two on the day featured an offensive outpouring from the Tourists right from the start. Asheville pounded out five runs in the second inning and seven more in the third. Chris Jensen (2-0, 3.76) pitched excellent for Asheville, but was overshadowed a bit by the offense. Jensen went six innings and he allowed only one run on three hits.

Story went deep for his fifth Home Run of the year and Cleary Jr. added three hits for the Tourists. Asheville went 6-for-13 with runners in scoring position and cruised to the 12-1 win.

The series finale is scheduled for 7:05pm Monday night and the Tourists will have to face RHP Dylan Bundy for Delmarva. Bundy has not allowed a hit this season in 13 innings pitched. Asheville is now 10-2 on the road and have won five games in a row overall.
