Pitching Matchup: RHP Dylan Bundy (0-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Daniel Winkler (2-1, 7.20)
STAT OF THE DAY: During the 13 innings in which Dylan Bundy has been the pitcher of record, the Shorebirds have not scored a single run. In fact, the Shorebirds offense has managed just six hits during the 13 innings that Bundy has pitched.
BIGGER CROWDS FOR BUNDY: A total of 4,375 fans have come to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to watch Dylan Bundy's first two home starts (both on Tuesday nights). The first two Tuesday night home games in 2011 drew a total of 1,892 fans.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds lost twice on Sunday, once in gut-wrenching fashion and once in lop-sided fashion. In the completion of a suspended game from Saturday, the Shorebirds overcame an 8-3 deficit with a five-run eighth, but lost 9-8. Then, in the regularly scheduled game, Asheville scored five runs in the second and seven in the third to beat the Shorebirds 12-1. The Shorebirds dropped to fourth place in the Northern Division, four games back of Greensboro. The Shorebirds look to avoid a second sweep this season (@ Greensboro, April 19-21).
MATT TAYLOR DEALING: The lefty reliever tossed 4.2 innings on Sunday and allowed just two hits and one run. He retired 11 straight at one point during the outing. Taylor now ranks tenth in the SAL with a 1.93 ERA. Taylor sports a 2.45 GO/AO, third best on the staff.
GIVENS' FIRST THREE-HIT GAME: Mychal Givens went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to complete the suspended game yesterday. It was his first three-hit game of the season. It also broke a four-game stretch where he was 0-for-11. His batting average jumped from .180 to .221.
HIT STREAK ENDS AT 12: John Ruettiger went 0-for-3 in the regularly scheduled Sunday game to end his hit streak at 12 games, a career best. The 12-game hit streak is tied for fifth longest in the SAL this year.
STARR IS CLUTCH: Sammie Starr is batting .400 (8-20) when hitting with runners in scoring position. He hits .500 (7-of-14) when batting with runners in scoring position and two outs. Eleven of his 15 RBIs this season have been recorded with two outs on the board.
#2 FOR NARRON: Connor Narron hit his second home run of the season yesterday to tie Gabriel Lino and Nicky Delmonico for the team lead. Narron didn't hit a home run in his first two seasons in the Orioles system (90 games, 295 at-bats).
