Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - Four home runs, two by catcher Andrew Knapp, and a seven-run fifth inning powered the Sacramento River Cats (51-67) to a dominant 11-1 win over the first place Reno Aces (67-51) in Tuesday's series-opener.

After Reno went up 1-0 in the top of the second, the River Cats broke through on Knapp's first homer of the day, this one being a three-run shot.

The score remained 3-1 in favor of Sacramento until a seven-run explosion broke the game open.

Following a ground-rule double by shortstop Dixon Machado, a four-pitch walk by center fielder Luis González, and a wild pitch, first baseman David Villar plated two with a single.

Three pitches later, second baseman Jason Krizan launched a 411-foot two-run shot (104.9 MPH exit velocity).

Four batters later, Knapp and third baseman Ford Proctor made it 10-1 with back-to-back homers. The back-to-back sequence was the River Cats' third in as many games.

Right-hander Ronnie Williams was superb outside of a solo homer. He struck out four while allowing one hit (the homer) and one walk in 4.0 innings.

Righty Sean Hjelle (5-7, 5.21) will try to make it two in a row with a win on Wednesday. He'll take on a Reno TBD at 6:35 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Machado, who led the seven-run fifth off with a double, also singled in the inning, becoming the first River Cats hitter to have two hits in an inning since infielder Mauricio Dubón on July 2, 2021 at Las Vegas.

Righty Luis Ortiz (3-3) continued his dominant form, striking out one while allowing a hit in 2.0 shutout innings. The 26-year-old has 15 strikeouts, a 0.82 WHIP, and a .172 opposing batting average in his last 17.0 innings with zero earned runs.
