Homers Propel Isotopes to 8-5 Victory

Albuquerque, NM - The Isotopes fell down five runs after the first frame but scored two runs in the second and five in the fourth, including three homers, while the bullpen tossed 8.1 shutout innings to beat the Express, 8-5, Tuesday night at Isotopes Park.

Offensively, Albuquerque registered 12 hits, two doubles, a triple and four homers. LJ Hatch, Jonathan Morales, Coco Montes and Tim Lopes all hit homers. Ryan Vilade and Montes both had a game-high three hits with an RBI. Morales had a team-high two RBI. Michael Toglia also recorded an RBI.

The Express took a quick 5-0 lead in the first on five hits, including a two-run double by Davis Wendzel.

Albuquerque chipped away at the deficit by plating two runs in the second inning on a Vilade RBI triple and Boswell RBI double.

In the home half of the fourth, the Isotopes exploded for five runs and took a 7-5 advantage. Morales blasted a two-run shot while Hatch and Lopes hit back-to-back clouts. Toglia then singled home the fifth run of the inning.

The Isotopes added a run for insurance in the eighth on a Montes solo shot, the fourth homer of the game for Albuquerque.

Ashton Goudeau did not factor into the decision after allowing five runs over 0.2 innings. Matt Dennis tallied his fifth win of the year after tossing 3.1 shutout innings. He allowed just one walk. Chad Smith earned his 12th save of the year.

Topes Scope: - Hatch and Lopes are the eighth Isotopes duo to hit back-to-back home runs this year. It was the first time either player was a part of back-to-back clouts in 2022.

-Albuquerque scored five runs in the fourth frame, the 14th time they have plated five runs in an inning and first since August 11 vs. Reno.

-The Isotopes hit four homers on the night-the 10th time the team has hit at least four homers in a game.

-The Isotopes allowed five runs in the first frame. For the year, they've allowed 121 in the first inning-the most in all of MiLB.

-With the win, Albuquerque is now 8-13 in series openers and 6-5 at home. They have won three-straight series openers at home.

-Bouchard's 18 game on-base streak came to an end after an 0-for-5 night. It was the second-longest active streak in the PCL. During the streak he is slashed .290/.412/.652 with three doubles, two triples, six homers, 11 RBI and 14 walks.

-Toglia extended his hit streak to seven games. During the streak, he is slashing .387/.441/.742 with five doubles, two homers and nine RBI. He also has a hit in 10 of the 13 Triple-A games he's played in.

-Vilade tallied a double and has recorded an extra-base hit in two-straight games for the first time since July 31-August 2. He also registered his 21st multi-hit performance of the year and third three-hit game. He also drew a walk to reach base four times, the fifth occurrence this year.

-Montes recorded his 24th multi-hit performance of the year, which is third on the team, and his second-straight. He has a modest five-game hitting streak.

-Lopes hit his second home run in his last 20 games.

-Morales registered his third-straight multi-hit performance-the first time he's accomplished the feat all year. He also drove in multi-RBI in two-straight games for the second time this year.

-Dennis tossed 3.1 shutout innings-tying his longest bullpen outing on the year.

-Smith recorded his first save since July 7 against Round Rock. He is now tied for the PCL lead in saves with 12.

-Goudeau allowed five runs in the first frame-tied for the most he's allowed in the opening stanza this year. It was also the sixth time in 13 starts he's relented runs in the opening inning. He has surrendered five runs in eight starts this year.

-Goudeau lasted just 0.2 innings, which is the second-shortest start by an Isotopes pitcher this year. It was the second time this year he couldn't complete a full inning

On Deck: The Isotopes and Express will play game two Wednesday at 6:35 pm. Albuquerque is scheduled to start Brandon Gold while Round is expected to start Cole Winn.
