Riley Greene Delivers Erie a Walk-Off Win

The SeaWolves won their third straight game by walking off on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 5-4, on Wednesday night at UPMC Park. Riley Greene drove in all five runs for the SeaWolves, including the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

A.J. Ladwig opened the night with two scoreless frames before Binghamton found a run. Luis Carpio and Yoel Romero each knocked singles to combine for the game's first run. Ladwig was hit for two more runs in the sixth inning behind a pair of doubles by Yoel Romero and Mark Vientos.

Billy Lescher took over on the bump for Erie and collected three strikeouts in a scoreless performance. After Erie had tied the game at three, Binghamton responded against Joe Navilhon in the eighth. Wagner Lagrange doubled to the corner in left field and quickly came around to score on a single by Matt Whinaker. Navilhon dealt with continued trouble in the ninth inning, giving up a leadoff double and a walk, but stranded the runners.

It was another night of sporadic offense for Erie. John Valente collected the first hit for Erie when he tripled in the third inning. Riley Greene started a multi-RBI day at the plate by driving in Valente to tie the game at one. Tony Dibrell only tossed four innings in the start for Binghamton before handing things off to the bullpen.

After falling behind by two runs, Erie couldn't get the offense going again until after the stretch. Binghamton gifted three baserunners in the frame, allowing an error, hitting a batter, and giving up a walk. Greene, facing Jared Robinson with the bases loaded, delivered another timely hit for Erie, singling on a sharp line to right field to drive in two runs and tie the game again.

Erie made a final push in the ninth inning against Andrew Mitchell. Jack Kenley singled with one out, and John Valente doubled give Erie, and Riley Greene, their chance at the win. With two outs, Greene knocked a pitch to second base and beat out the throw at first, giving both runners time to score.

Erie and Binghamton continue their series on Thursday night at UPMC Park at 6:05 p.m. It's a Thirsty Thursday presented by Bud Light featuring Smith's hot dogs, Pepsi soft drinks, popcorn and select domestic draft beers for just $2 each.
