EL Reading Fightin Phils

Miller & Tatum's Late Longballs Lead Reading to Victory

May 19, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The R-Phils won their first of the series against the Akron RubberDucks 8-4, led offensively by Luke Miller and McCarthy Tatum launching their fourth homers of the season. Braden Zarbnisky's two innings without an earned run would earn him his first victory of the season, while Zach Warren and Jakob Hernandez slammed the door shot.

Starter Kyle Glogoski looked good early, as he sat down the first three in order. A pair of walks to begin the second would lead to traffic on the basepaths, but back-to-back punchouts would allow the damage to stay at one heading into the third.

The 1-0 lead would be erased in the third, as Daniel Brito brought home Hunter Hearn and Dalton Guthrie on an RBI triple.

Josh Stephen would bring in two of his own on an RBI double, as Brito and Tatum slid home.

An unearned run would be added for Akron in the bottom of the third, but the Fightins fought to get that unearned run right back, courtesy of an RBI double from Guthrie to put the team up by three runs.

The RubberDucks tacked on more in the fifth and sixth and Reading's lead dropped to only one. The Fightins, however, were not finished yet. The team-leaders in homers went on to put the game out of reach. Miller's line drive to deep left center in the eighth, followed by a two-run blast in the ninth by Tatum took the Fightins to victory, 8-4.
