Right-Hander Simon Castro Promoted to Charlotte

(Fort Mill, SC) - Earlier today, the Chicago White Sox promoted RHP Simon Castro to the Charlotte Knights from Double-A Birmingham. Castro, 24, is ranked as the third-best prospect in the organization, as rated by *Baseball America*. The Dominican native will join the Knights on their current 12-game road trip and is expected to slide into the club's starting rotation.

At the time of his promotion, Castro was 6-3 with a 3.60 ERA in 13 starts for the Barons. Castro has enjoyed the month of June and is 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in three starts this month. The 6'5" right-hander has a win in three of his last four starts.

The 2012 season is the first for Castro in the White Sox organization. On December 31, 2011, Castro was obtained from the San Diego Padres along with pitcher Pedro Hernandez in exchange for outfielder Carlos Quentin.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
