TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Durham Bulls in the first game of a four-game set from Durham Bulls Athletic Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd lost to Norfolk yesterday afternoon by a score of 5-3. Buffalo is 19-19 as the road team this season. The Bisons will return to Coca-Cola Field for an eight-game homestand against Louisville and Durham beginning June 26.
vs. BULLS: Tonight's game is the first meeting between the Bisons and the Bulls this season. In 2011, the Herd went 3-5 overall against Durham and 1-3 when playing at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Since their return to the IL in 1998, Buffalo is 58-54 (.518) against the Bulls. The Bisons will host Durham for a four-game set from June 30-July 3.
OLSON: LHP GARRETT OLSON will match RHP Matt Harvey and RHP Jeurys Familia with his team-high 15th start of the season today. The southpaw is coming off a loss against Pawtucket on June 17. In that outing, Olson allowed four runs on seven hits in his shortest start of the year (2.1IP). On the road, Olson is 1-1 with a 3.86ERA and 36 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work.
THE CLOSER: RHP FERNANDO CABRERA is a perfect 15-for-15 in save chances this season and has two more saves than any other pitcher in the IL. With a strikeout last night, the righty became only the ninth Bisons pitcher in the modern-era to record 200 strikeouts with the Herd. Cabrera is also now the Bisons modern-era leader for games pitched (108) and only the second pitcher overall to reach 100 games pitched (Scott Medvin, 106).
ACOSTA: RHP MANNY ACOSTA threw two perfect innings last night in Norfolk. In his six relief appearances with the Herd, the righty has a 0.82ERA and 10 strikeouts in 11.0 innings of work (8H, 1ER).
BISONS BITS: INF RONNY CEDENO has hit in five of his seven games since joining the Bisons on an MLB injury rehab assignment...With 44 stolen bases as a team, the 2012 Bisons are just eight steals away from last season's total of 52...OF VALENTINO PASCUCCI is third in the IL with 50 walks on the year.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (38-32) were off yesterday. New York begins a three-game series at Citi Field with the crosstown rival Yankees tonight (7:10 p.m.). Former Bison LHP JON NIESE takes the hill for the Mets. In his start against the Yankees on June 10, the southpaw tossed 7 innings of two-run baseball (zero earned) in a no-decision.
