Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls brought their momentum from their recent road trip home to the DBAP on Friday night, defeating the Buffalo Bisons 6-5. After smashing 20 hits on Thursday, the Bulls put together a 13 hit effort on their way to their fourth win in the last five games.
After the start of the game was delayed by rain for an hour and twenty one minutes, Lance Pendleton threw the homestand's first pitch at 8:26pm. Buffalo jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and tacked on another in the fourth. The Bulls, fresh off a season high 14 runs on Thursday, would claw back into the game inch-by-inch. Reid Brignac singled to lead off the top of the fifth and extend his on base streak to 15 games. He would come all the way around thanks to a wild pitch and an RBI single from Cole Figueroa to cut the Bisons lead to 2-1.
Once Buffalo starter Garrett Olson was pulled, right hander Ramon Ramirez imploded, giving up three runs and allowing the Bulls to take the lead. Chris Gimenez started the sixth inning off with his second hit of the game, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Singles from Brignac and Matt Mangini quickly put the Bulls on top 4-2.
Pendleton (3-2, 3.52) kept the Bisons in check, ultimately earning the victory. It was his longest outing as a Bull and his first win since 5/6, as the Rice alum went 6 2/3 innings allowing 3 ER on eight hits.
The Bulls were not finished scoring. After Frank De Los Santos, in his Durham debut, allowed an inherited runner to score in the top of the 7th, the Bulls bats regained the lost run and tagged on another just to be safe. Brignac doubled in the 5th run of the game and joined Chris Gimenez and Brandon Allen with three hit games. Brignac finished the night going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 R.
Dane De La Rosa closed the game out, notching his team leading 7th save of the year. He tossed two innings and was shaky at times, but ultimately got the job done thanks to stellar defense in the 9th.
The Bulls and Bisons return to the DBAP on Saturday night at 7:05pm. Buffalo sends out RHP Collin McHugh (0-1, 7.20) against RHP Jim Paduch (3-5, 4.78). Tomorrow the Bulls will don pink jerseys in during Swing for the Cure Night. The game used jerseys will be auctioned off during the contest.
