White Sox Purchase Contract of RHP Brian Bruney

(Fort Mill, SC) -Earlier today, the Chicago White Sox announced that they have purchased the contract of Charlotte right-handed pitcher Brian Bruney, who was 1-3 with a 1.85 ERA and 11 saves in 23 games for the Knights this season.

Bruney, 30, becomes the fifth Knights player to be promoted to Chicago this season. The veteran right-hander joins Dylan Axelrod, Eric Stults, Jose Quintana and Jordan Danks, who have all been promoted from Charlotte.

The Astoria, Oregon native was tied for fourth in the International League in saves. Bruney takes the roster spot of White Sox pitcher Philip Humber, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 17) with a right elbow flexor strain.

Kosuke Fukudome, who appeared in four games with Charlotte on a Major League rehab assignment, was returned to Chicago, reinstated from the 15-day disabled list and designated for assignment by the White Sox.

Earlier in the day, Simon Castro was promoted to the Knights from Double-A Birmingham. Castro was 6-3 with a 3.60 ERA in 13 starts for the Barons. The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-Aaffiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
