Toledo Mud Hens News Release

(Toledo, OH) - The Toledo Mud Hens will take the field on Saturday in a brand new uniform. It's been three years since the Mud Hens have donned a new jersey and more than ten years for an entirely new look. While the uniform itself is new, it is a nod to the Mud Hens rich baseball history.

"The new Mortimer jersey is a great way to show off our team history. The jersey body is a cream color that is reminiscent of the jerseys worn by many teams in the 50's and 60's. It also has our old mascot, Mortimer, on the sleeve. Mortimer fanwear has been very popular over the last 10+ years, but this is the first time in over 30 years that Mortimer has been used on-field," says Craig Katz, Director of Merchandise & Licensing for the Mud Hens.

Toledo artist Robert Parsil created the original depiction of a Mud Hen in 1948. The likeness would later be known as Mortimer. In 1949, the owners of the Toledo Mud Hens, the Detroit Tigers, unveiled Mortimer the Mud Hen. Though Toledo baseball teams had been known as the Mud Hens as early as 1896, this is the first graphic depiction of the team's namesake.

Replica "Mortimer" jerseys will be available for purchase at the Swamp Shop and online at www.mudhens.com on Saturday.

The Mud Hens are home now through Monday, June 25th. Fans can purchase their tickets at the Fifth Third Field box office, by phone (419) 725-HENS (4367), or online at www.mudhens.com.
