Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (APRIL 13, 2015) - After winning their first game of the season on Sunday, the Frisco RoughRiders (2-3) continued their hot hitting to take game two over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (1-4) with a 7-4 victory at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Drew Robinson took the Naturals deep twice in the affair.
Victor Payano made his first start of the year for the Riders. The left-hander went four innings, giving up only one hit, striking out four, but walking four Naturals as he picked up a no-decision in the effort. Jose Leclerc (1-0) earned the win, allowing three earned runs while striking out five over 2.1 innings in relief.
Robinson jump-started the offense with a solo homerun in the fifth inning off Naturals starter J.C. Sulbaran (0-1) to deep-center. The Riders led 1-0 and Sulbaran's night was finished after five innings. The righty took the loss despite allowing just one earned run on five hits.
A Nick Williams RBI-single started an outpouring of run support for the Riders in the sixth inning. Catcher Patrick Cantwell laced a triple off reliever Matt Murray scoring two. In total, the Riders plated five in the inning to build a 6-0 lead.
The Naturals chipped away in the seventh inning scoring three times and added another run in the eighth when the speedy Terrance Gore turned a leadoff walk into two stolen bases and scored on a Lane Adams single.
Robinson's second solo homer provided a three-run cushion for the Riders heading into the ninth. Robinson finished with three hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Riders closer Francisco Mendoza recorded his first save of 2015 punching out the final Naturals hitter to seal the 7-4 victory.
It's an 11:05 first pitch as Alec Asher (0-0) gets his second start for the Riders, going for the series sweep on Tuesday. The Naturals counter with Miguel Almonte (0-1). Tuesday's game marks the first Taco Tuesday special, fans can enjoy $2 tacos all game long, select $3 beers (from 10am-noon), and half-price margaritas (from 10am-noon).
