Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
TULSA, OK - Key swings by Corey Seager and six shutout innings from Chris Anderson helped Tulsa hold off the Hooks 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at ONEOK Field. The result marks Corpus Christi's first loss of 2015.
Seager, the Dodgers' top prospect, led the charge for Tulsa offensively, notching three of the club's seven hits while plating both runs. He went 9-for-12 in the three-game series and is batting .583 on the season.
Aaron West got the start for Corpus Christi (5-1) and matched Anderson thru the first three frames. Seager belted the opening pitch of the fourth over the fence in right-center for his first home run and a 1-0 Drillers lead.
West (0-1) retired the next six batters to complete his day. In all, he allowed three hits and fanned two without issuing a walk, throwing 41 of 57 pitches for strikes.
Anderson (1-0) held the Hooks to two hits and two walks, and struck out seven.
Lefty Kent Emanuel relieved West and stranded three base runners over the next two innings. In the eighth, Pete Lavin led off with a double and promptly scored on Seager's line-drive single to center for a 2-0 Tulsa edge.
Mike Thomas provided perfect relief for the Drillers. The lefty struck out three of the six batters he faced.
Blake Smith entered in the ninth and struck out Tony Kemp to being the inning. Carlos Correa was next and worked the count to 1-1 before depositing his first Double-A home run onto the berm in left.
Two-out singles by Brandon Meredith and Tyler Heineman staged runners at the corners but Smith, following an eight-pitch at-bat, fanned Conrad Gregor to end the game.
The Hooks return to Corpus Christi for their home opener Thursday night against Springfield. Mark Appel (1-0) is slated to pitch against Cardinals right-hander Mike Mayers (1-0). Thirsty Thursday from Stripes and postgame fireworks highlight the festivities. Whataburger Field gates open at 5:30 and first pitch is 7:05.
