Riders Receive Kyuji Fujikawa on Rehab Assignment
April 14, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (APRIL 15, 2015) - Texas Rangers pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa will begin a Major League rehab assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders as he recovers from a right groin sprain. The Rangers placed Fujikawa on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday, April 5, retroactive to April 1.
The 34-year-old right-handed pitcher is seeking to make his Texas debut after signing with the club as a free agent in the off-season. Fujikawa spent the previous two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, though he was limited to just 27 relief appearances due to undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on June 11, 2013. In 25 Major League innings, he has gone 1-1 with a 5.04 ERA, 31 strikeouts and eight walks.
Prior to joining Major League Baseball, Fujikawa spent 12 years with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball's Central League in Japan. The Nishinomiya native went 42-25 with 219 saves and a 1.77 ERA in 562 appearances (all but 12 in relief). He led the league in holds and saves twice each and was a member of Japan's championship team in the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classics.
Tickets for today's game and every Riders home game may be purchased at the Dr Pepper Ballpark box office, by calling (972) 731-9200 or via www.RidersBaseball.com.
