Missions Bats Come Alive in 5-2 Win

SPRINGFIELD--A pregame hitters-only meeting helped shake the Missions out of a slump as they improved to 2-3 Monday night in front of 4,725 at Hammons Field.

San Antonio set a season highs for runs while collecting a season-best 14 hits. They entered the game with just 18 hits and nine runs through their first four contests.

Travis Jankowski and Trea Turner led the way with three hits apiece while three other Missions finished with a pair of hits each.

Yeison Asencio produced a clutch two-run pinch hit double in the sixth inning that snapped a 2-2 tie.

Reliever Jay Jackson picked up the win by firing three scoreless innings that included seven strikeouts. The Missions staff registered a season-high 12 strkeouts.

NOTES: The Missions avoided their first 1-4 start since the 1996 season...The club wraps up the season-opening road trip today before their home opener on Thursday
