
Missions Edge Cardinals in Homestand Finale

Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals fell in the series finale against the San Antonio Missions, 3-0, before 3,972 fans at Hammons Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Springfield RHP Nick Petree (L, 0-1) and San Antonio RHP Justin Hancock (W, 1-1) dueled through the first four frames, alternating scoreless inning after scoreless inning. However, the Missions (3-3) broke through in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run from LF Alberth Martinez for the 1-0 lead.
Petree worked out of the fifth with no further damage done, but San Antonio struck again in the sixth. CF Travis Jankowski started the frame with a single, followed by a base hit from SS Trea Turner. 3B Casey McElroy followed suit with an RBI single of his own, bringing in Jankowski from third to make it 2-0. RHP Corey Baker took over on the mound and quickly retired RF Yeison Asencio on a pop out. However, 1B Luis Domoromo worked a walk to load the bases, followed by an RBI groundout from 2B Diego Goris to increase the lead to 3-0.
Meanwhile, Hancock kept the Cardinals (1-5) bats at bay through his seven scoreless innings, scattering seven hits and striking out three. LHP Chris Nunn and LHP Brandon Alger each provided a scoreless inning apiece, closing the 3-0 win for the Missions. Cardinals 3B Breyvic Valera led the Springfield offense with a pair of singles.
