Harrisburg Senators News Release
On Wednesday night in front of 4,382 fans, the Richmond Flying Squirrels used speed and the long ball to beat the Senators 3-1. Harrisburg falls to 65-52 on the season while Richmond improves to 63-53.
Richmond scored the first run of the game when Francisco Peguero scored all the way from first base on a two-out hit and run single off the bat of Wes Hodges. The Senators tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when with two outs Josh Johnson reached on an infield single and Adam Fox hit a pinch-hit run scoring double.
In the ninth off of Pat Lehman, Peguero reached on an infield single then Roger Kieschnick followed with a two-run blast to right field giving Richmond a 3-1 lead.
Heath Hembree allowed a lead-off single in the ninth to Leonard Davis, but pitched around it to earn the win.
The two starting pitchers were outstanding as Shairon Martis for the Sens and Eric Surkamp for the Flying Squirrels both pitched deep into the game. Martis went seven innings, striking out 10 while allowing just a single run. Surkamp pitched 7.2 innings, striking out 9 and allowing just four hits. However, neither starter was involved in the outcome.
Josh Johnson had two hits for the Senators, including a one-out double in the third inning but he was left stranded when Erik Komatsu lined out sharply to short stop with two outs.
The final game of the three-game series and season series with Richmond is Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The Senators send RH Tanner Roark to the mound while Richmond sends LH Ryan Verdugo to the hill. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 6:50 p.m.
