TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Reading Phillies will meet in the opener of a three-game series...Ryan Verdugo tossed eight innings and he and reliever Jason Stoffel combined on a three-hit shutout of the Baysox as Richmond avoided a series sweep with a 4-0 win in the series finale on Thursday night in front of 4,187 fans at Prince George's Stadium.

SHUTDOWN SQUIRRELS: The Flying Squirrels tossed their fourth shutout of the season in last night's 4-0 win at Bowie...It was the club's first shutout since posting a 1-0 blanking at Bowie 5/9...It was the 10th time this season that the Baysox have been shutout this season, most in the Eastern League.
HIP, HIP, JOSE!: Third baseman Jose Flores went 3-for-4 with a RBI, run scored, and a stolen base...His three hits were a season high and it was his seventh multi-hit game in 46 games this season...Entering the game, the 23-year-old was 4-for-32 (.125) over his previous 11 games...The switch-hitter is batting .144 (15-for-104) with three extra base hits from the left side and is batting .278 (15-for-54) with four extra base hits from the right side.
CHRISTIAN AND CULBERSON: Outfielder Justin Christian is batting .139 (5-for-36) over his last 10 games with five strikeouts and four walks...His batting average has dropped from .289 to .262 over that span...Since going 3-for-4 against 5/25 against Erie, second baseman Charlie Culberson is 5-for-33 (.152) over his last eight games...He has struck out 10 times and has walked once over that span and his average has fallen from .301 to .278.
THE LOW DOWN: Catcher Aaron Lowenstein has hits in a season-long five straight games after an error on Pedro Florimon was changed to a hit Wednesday night...The 25-year-old is 6-for-14 (.429) over that span with a double, a RBI, and a run scored.
PITCHING IN: The Flying Squirrels pitching staff leads the Eastern League with a 2.74 ERA through 53 games, the only staff with a sub-three ERA...Richmond's 2.74 staff ERA is the third-lowest in all of MiLB, trailing the Low-A Burlington Bees (2.59) and Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers (2.62)...The club ranks second in the league with 429 strikeouts, and the pitching staff has logged a league-high 489 1/3 innings of work.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN: The Flying Squirrels are in a stretch where they will play 13 of 16 games on the road...The club is 8-18 on the road, and it is batting .194 (167-for-859) and averaging 2.85 runs per game (74R/26G) in 26 road contests...Richmond recently completed a stretch of playing 10 out of 13 games at home, going 8-5 over those 13 contests...The Flying Squirrels are 17-10 at home and are batting .253 (237-for-938) in 27 games at The Diamond while averaging 4.30 runs per game at home (116R/27G).
