Rock Cats Have Two More Player Transactions

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League made two player moves today and one involved placing the Minnesota Twins' 2010 Minor League Player of the Year - Outfielder Joe Benson - on the Disabled List.

OF Joe Benson, the 23-year-old native of Hinsdale, IL who the Minnesota Twins selected in the 2nd Round of the 2006 Draft, has been placed on the club's Disabled List with a sore left knee. The 6'1" / 210-pound right-handed hitter appeared in 50 games for the 2011 Rock Cats and collected 16 Doubles, 2 Triples and 5 HRs with 26 RBI and 7 Stolen Bases. The fleet-footed OF, considered one of the top Prospects in all of baseball, has also been a defensive standout in portions of two seasons in New Britain. In 2010, Benson blasted a team-leading 23 HRs in a Rock Cats' uniform and earned the Minnesota system's Minor League Player of Year Award.

INF Steve Singleton, the 25-year-old resident of Oakland, CA who Minnesota selected in the 11th Round of the 2006 Draft, has been promoted to Rochester in the International League. It will be the University of San Diego product's second visit this season to the Triple-A classification. The versatile 6'1" / 185-pound Infielder's contributions in New Britain have been significant over portions of the last three years. After being among the Eastern League's leaders in Doubles (43) in 2010, the left-handed swinging middle-Infielder had already collected 17 two-baggers in just 41 games for the 2011 Rock Cats.

He departs the Hardware City with a .295 BA - and many admirers. He will join the RedWings in time for their 7:05 PM home game tonight at Frontier Field.
