Tampa Tarpons News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - The Florida State League announced on Monday that Tampa Tarpons RHP Trevor Stephan has been named the FSL "Pitcher of the Week" for the period of July 22-28. It is the first time a Tampa player has been chosen for a weekly award this season.

In his lone start of the week, Stephan made history by tossing a seven-inning no-hitter in Game 1 of a double-header vs. the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday, July 26. Tampa won the game, 2-0.

The 23-year-old tallied a season-high nine strikeouts while retiring 21-of-22 batters faced, with the only baserunner allowed via an error in the fifth. Stephan threw 60-of-89 pitches for strikes in what was also his first-career shutout.

It was the third no-hitter in the FSL this season. Florida RHP Jasseel De La Cruz no-hit Jupiter in nine innings on May 18, and the Clearwater Threshers used three pitchers in a combined nine-inning no-hitter vs. the Daytona Tortugas on June 22.

The no-hitter was the 18thin Tampa Tarpons (Yankees) history (ninth of less than nine innings) and the sixth since Tampa became a New York Yankees affiliate in 1994.

Prior to Friday, Tampa's last no-hitter was on August 6, 2018 in a 1-0 loss to Clearwater in Game 2 of a doubleheader. RHP Deivi Garcia struck out 12 over seven perfect innings before RHP Christian Morris allowed a run without a hit in an extra-inning.
