Plassmeyer Puzzles Marauders in 5-0 Shutout Win

BRADENTON, Fla. - Michael Plassmeyer turned in a masterful performance for the Stone Crabs Tuesday, striking out nine Bradenton Marauders in 5-0 win at LECOM Park.

Plassmeyer (6-2) set a career high with nine punchouts, allowing four hits over seven scoreless innings. He didn't walk a single batter.

The Stone Crabs' (64-42, 29-11) bullpen struck out the maximum six batters over two innings to set a team high for strikeouts in a game with 15. Mike Franco struck out five over 1.2 innings before Simon Rosenblum-Larson fanned the final batter of the night.

The Stone Crabs' win brings their July record to 20-8 with one game remaining. 20 wins is the most in a month in franchise history.

The Stone Crabs scored four of their five runs in the middle innings against Bradenton starter Osvaldo Bido (0-1).

In a scoreless game in the top of the fourth, Wander Franco walked and advanced to second on a fly ball. With two outs, Moises Gomez ripped an RBI double to left to make it 1-0 Charlotte.

Leading by the same margin in the fifth, Zach Rutherford singled before Jake Palomaki reached on an error. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third with two outs, Franco lined a single to center to score both runners and extend the lead to 3-0.

Up by the same count in the sixth, Kaleo Johnson walked before Gomez singled him to second. The next batter was Izzy Wilson, who shot a single up the middle to make it 4-0.

The Stone Crabs added a run in the ninth on a solo home run to left by Rutherford.

The Stone Crabs will look to reach 21 wins in July at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Joe Ryan (6-2, 1.68) makes the start for Charlotte, against Brad Case (3-3, 3.80) of the Marauders. Coverage of the game begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
