Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Andrew Bechtold and Jose Miranda each hit three-run home runs, and the Miracle rallied from an early five-run deficit to clobber the Dunedin Blue Jays, 11-6, on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.
After Dunedin scored five runs in the top of the second, the Miracle quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the frame on a David Banuelos RBI single.
Then in the third, the Miracle put up their first of two crooked number innings of the night. Following an Aaron Whitefield double, Trey Cabbage singled to left to cut the deficit to 5-2. Later in the inning, with two runners on and two outs, Bechtold smashed a three-run home run to left to tie the game, 5-5.
The game remained tied at five until the sixth, when the Miracle offense erupted for six runs. With three runs already in, Miranda connected for a three-run home run to push the lead to 11-5.
Dakota Chalmers, in his first Miracle appearance, set the Blue Jays down 1-2-3 in the first. But the right-hander struggled with his control in the second, walking back-to-back batters to start the frame before surrendering consecutive run scoring singles. A 56-minute weather delay followed the second run scoring hit, ending Chalmers' debut.
Fort Myers relievers combined to hold Dunedin to two runs in eight innings of work. Zach Neff (2-1) earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings. Johan Quezada allowed one run in three innings while Moises Gomez surrendered a run in two innings of work.
The Miracle pounded out 13 hits. Bechtold 3-for-3, Whitefield 4-for-5, and Cabbage 2-for-4 all collected multi-hit games. The trio combined to go 9-for-12 with a home run and five runs knocked in.
The three-game series continues on Wednesday night in Fort Myers. Cole Sands will start for the Miracle. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
