Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
In their return to Jupiter, the Hammerheads recorded 13 hits on their way to a series opening 3-1 win against the Daytona Tortugas.
Making his second rehab start with the Hammerheads, Nick Neidert threw a solid five innings allowing just one run on six hits. The Marlins #11 prospect struck out three and walked one during the outing.
Daytona got on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the 4th, but the Hammerheads ultimately took the game with three tuns in the bottom of the 6th.
Micah Brown's line drive double batted in James Nelson for run number one. Marlins 2019 first round pick JJ Bleday batted in the winning runs for the Hammerheads with a hard-hit 2-run single, making it a 3-1 game.
Despite recent offensive struggles, the Hammerheads batting order found lots of success at the plate with thirteen hits total on the night. Notably, outfielder Jerar Encarnacion and first baseman Lazaro Alonso both went 3-5 and utility infielder Micah Brown went 1-3 with an RBI double and a run.
Marlins 2018 1st round pick Connor Scott made his debut with the Jupiter Hammerheads in Tuesday's game. After spending most of the summer in Clinton, Scott hit one single and walked once in the leadoff spot for Jupiter.
As of Scott's addition to the roster, the Hammerheads now have the last four first round picks for the Marlins on their roster: Braxton Garrett (2016), Trevor Rogers (2017), Connor Scott (2018) and JJ Bleday (2019). Tonight, Scott and Bleday batted one and two respectively.
The Hammerheads bullpen limited the Tortugas to one hit over the last four innings. Alex Vesia earned the win with a hitless, scoreless, two-inning outing. C.J. Carter followed with a scoreless 1-hit relief appearance, and Cason Sherrod shut the game down with a two-strikeout, no-hit closing stint on the mound to earn the save. The game ended 3-1, Jupiter.
The Hammerheads will play a 6:30pm game tomorrow at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to continue their three-game series against Daytona tomorrow. For tickets, visit jupiterhammerheads.com/tickets.
