Florida Fire Frogs News Release

KISSIMMEE, FLA.: LHP Philip Pfeifer continued his dominant stretch and the Florida Fire Frogs provided two eighth inning tallies to ensure a shutout of the Clearwater Threshers, 2-0, on Tuesday evening at Osceola County Stadium.

The Fire Frogs have now blanked the Threshers three straight times in the season series and the pitching staff hasn't allowed a run in its last 25 frames against Clearwater swingers. This was the 12th time Florida has shutout the opposition in 2019 and the first occasion since July 17 at Palm Beach.

Pfeifer got ahead of hitters all night, firing first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 24 batters he faced. He twirled seven shutout stanzas of three-hit baseball, surrendering just one walk and fanning eight Threshers while not factoring in the decision. Two of the hits he yielded were infield singles.

Hartman (1-5) bagged the final six outs, issuing just one free pass to pick up his first Advanced-A win.

In a game where there were a combined seven hits between the two teams, the one that went for extra-bases decided the contest. Riley Delgado and CJ Alexander led off the eighth by drawing walks against LHP Keylan Killgore. Jefrey Ramos slammed a double over Simon Muzziotti's head in center to score Delgado for the lead. Kevin Josephina tacked on another tally with a sacrifice liner for a 2-0 Fire Frogs edge.

Killgore (1-3) permitted a hit, two walks, and two earned runs in the eighth to take the loss.

Rehabbing MLB pitcher RHP Jerad Eickhoff got the start and scattered two hits for the Threshers. RHP Oscar Marcelino worked around an Andrew Moritz single and two walks in the third, stranding the bases loaded. RHP Jack Perkins walked two but struck out four over four shutout innings in his Advanced-A debut.

Moritz extended his FSL-best home hitting streak to nine games. Delgado and Alexander walked twice. Ramos was 2-3 at the dish with a double and the winning RBI.

NEXT UP: RHP Tristan Beck (2-2, 5.65) seeks his second consecutive strong outing against the Threshers on Whiskey Wednesday at the park. Enjoy $3 shots of Fireball, Rebel Yell, and Redneck Riviera. You can purchase a mixed drink with any of these selections for $5. Fire Frog Ale on draft is on sale for $5. Don't miss out on our Fire Frog legs special as well! First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
