
Revolution Pound Patriots 9-4

YORK, PA- The York Revolution defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-4 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Friday evening.
The Revolution struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead when third baseman Matt Padgett led off with a triple to left center and scored on an RBI infield single up the middle by leftfielder Matt Esquivel.
The Patriots tied the game at 1-1 with an unearned run in the top of the third inning when third baseman Teuris Olivares led off with a single to left, moved into scoring position on a Revolution fielding error and later scored on an RBI groundout to shortstop by centerfielder Sean Smith.
York answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Centerfielder Kennard Jones led off with a double to left center, moved to third on a fly out to right and came home on a balk. Second baseman Keoni DeRenne then followed with a solo home run (2) to right field.
The Revolution broke the game open with a four run bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Catcher Josh Johnson hit a one out triple to left center and after an infield single up the middle by Jones, scored on an RBI single to right by shortstop Matt Rogelstad. After DeRenne drew a walk to load the bases, Jones and Rogelstad would score on a Patriots' throwing error on a two out fielder's choice ground ball to short off the bat of rightfielder Jason Aspito. Padgett then hit an RBI single to right that plated DeRenne.
Somerset plated their second run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 7-2 York when designated hitter Josh Pressley ripped a double into left center and scored on an RBI double to left center by second baseman Matt Hagen.
York scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 9-2. DeRenne drew a lead off walk, took second on a passed ball and moved to third on a one out single to right by Aspito. Padgett then hit a two run double into the left field corner.
The Patriots score their final runs in the top of the eighth inning to make it 9-4 when catcher Jason Belcher slugged a two run home run (1) to right after a lead off single to left by first baseman Jeff Nettles.
Revolution starter Dave Gassner (3-6) picked up the win, allowing two runs, one earned, five hits while striking out three and walking three in 6.2 innings of work. Patriots' starter Jim Magrane (8-1) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, four earned, on ten hits while walking three and striking out one in 3.2 inning pitched.
With the loss the Patriots dropped to 37-21 on the 2009 season while the Revolution improved to 19-39.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, July 2nd when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The game is Strikeout Cancer Night presented by Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
